If you are considering your options for antenatal preparation you might be interested in what exactly Hypnobirthing is and whether you will get everything you need to know from attending our course. I thought a blog on this would be a great idea.
Here are some of the questions that I have been asked by women inquiring about our hypnobirthing classes and I think really they are thought or considered by everyone thinking about attending a course.
Will I learn everything I need?
Will I learn about the time after my baby has been born?
Will I learn about local information and get the guidance I need to navigate my home/ MLU /birth centre/ hospital birth?
Is it just relaxation? Will I need to attend another course or workshop to be fully prepared?
These questions are ALL answered by telling you what we cover during our courses. This also highlights the importance of really researching the hypnobirthing course you are planning to attend.
Not all hypnobirthing is the same, in fact there is such a broad spectrum of classes so it is important that you feel aligned with the message and ethos of the teacher.
One other key thing to consider is how long the classes or home study are, if its only very short you may not get the same level of information or time to really change the way you think about birth. Some courses (including our intensive class) are only really for those right in the last stages of pregnancy (and so short on time) and if they are short they should, like our intensive class, include lots of home study and guidance.
Ideally a full course is recommended if you can! We run our classes over three weekly sessions so that you have the time between the sessions to put everything in place and really practice and implement your learning and techniques.
This is important - practice is key. The more you do the more of an effect the tools and techniques will have and the more you will be able to navigate any birth that may unfold with confidence.
We have put together a course that is a hybrid of Hypnobirthing, an Antenatal class and a mindfulness workshop.
We have combined the wealth of knowledge we have from our training (Hypnobirthing, birth, breastfeeding, aromatherapy, mindfulness, relaxation and postnatal practice), our own broad experiences of birth and motherhood and our general love of birth and proud birth geekery.
We continue to add to, and develop these courses and workshops so that we can always make sure we are able to prepare you for birth in the way you need.
We know how important it is to feed our brains with as much positive as we can and we know that sometimes courses and workshops designed for birth preparation do not focus on this. (And occasionally even add to the fear and misconceptions that surround birth)
But we also know that we shouldn’t live in a fairy land. We know that sometimes birth is not straight forward. We know that sometimes plans change and so we make sure we cover everything you need to know with this in mind to help you feel prepared and confident as well as positive, empowered and supported no matter how you birth. It is for all of these reasons that we are proud teachers of The Calm Birth School.
